25 Years as Musical Director of the Cecilian Choir
.

A large audience enjoyed the Cecilian Choir’s Millennium Concert in St. Joseph’s last Wednesday. The Choir performed Gounod’s  Mass of St. Cecilia and  marked Kevin Veal’s twenty five years of service as Musical Director of the Choir.

Kevin is better known in St. Joseph’s as our organist and we enjoy his playing each week.   We congratulate him on his achievements with the Cecilian Choir over the past 25 years and take the opportunity to thank him for his dedication and commitment to church music.  Many people have cause to be grateful to him not only for his service to our parish but also for quietly and unobtrusively giving time for funerals and other family occasions.  We in St. Joseph’s are proud of him and wish him continuing success in his music and choir work.

St. Joseph’s Shop

- 218 Blackness Rd

A team of 30 volunteers successfully operated a Charity shop in Blackness Road and provided a contact point with the Church for many people who visited the shop.  The story of the shop is the story of people who gave generously of time and effort to be available for others.

Due to rising costs of Rent,  Rates, Water Charges and Safety legislation the Shop had to close in 2006.

Picture show a great St. Joseph's 'worker'  - Sheila Sinclair having tea-break in the shop.

February 2000
When St. Joseph's parishioners Neil and Winnie Burns went on Pilgrimage to Rome in February 2000, they knew they would see Pope John Paul, but they didn't dare hope they would actually meet him. The highlight of the week long stay in the eternal city was the Papal Audience which was held in St. Peters Square. Neil said  " This was actually the second time we had met him the first being 12 years ago. It was such a thrill for us both and something we didn't realise would actually happen until we arrived in the square. We had the best seats only yards from the Holy Father". Said Winnie "He may be frail now but there is still an aura of strength about him. We loved every minute of the pilgrimage, which was a marvellous experience, and those few minutes with the Pope were definitely the highlight."

Sadly both Winnie and Neil died in 2007. RIP.
