'Oor Wullie' - Derek Henderson -

Nine year old Derek Henderson was chosen by BBC Scotland to play the part of Oor Wullie in a programme broadcast on Radio Scotland on New Year's Day. Producer Dougie Campbell thought right from the start  that it would be nice , since the idea of Wullie was obviously 'born' in Dundee, that a Dundee lad should play him. That's where Derek came on the scene. Recommended by Drama  Teacher Lynne MacFarlane of 'Dramadrome'. Lynne says Derek "is a lovely lad and a great wee actor".

"Derek sounded just right and he's excellent at reading  and is very confident," said Dougie Campbell . "We wanted the vocal delivery to match the visuals, for the voice to be what people would expect from the cartoon pictures of Wullie, and Derek just had it perfectly."

The programme was introduced by International Film Star Ewan McGregor who revealed he too was a fervent 'Oor Wullie' and 'Broons' Fan. "All through my childhood, Mum and Dad got me the Annuals, every year. So it was the Broons one year and Oor Wullie the next. I would read them all through the year."
